Born in Richmond, VA, Patrick graduated from Benedictine High School and was recruited to play football for the University of Virginia by Coach George Welsh. Patrick played football from 2001 to 2004, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology. While at UVA, Patrick met his wife, Lauren, who was also a student athlete and pole vaulted for the Cavaliers. Patrick’s football career continued when he was drafted into the National Football League by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005.

In 2009 Patrick joined the Santa Clara Police Department in California.  He graduated as the “top recruit” from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Academy. Patrick’s hard work and dedication to service was recognized by the Santa Clara Optimist Club with the “Police Officer of the Year” award in 2013.  In February of 2016, Patrick and his Homeland Security and Special Events team partnered with many state, local and federal agencies to coordinate and plan the security for Super Bowl 50, which was held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

In July of 2016, Patrick and his family moved back to the Commonwealth to be closer to their family. Patrick and Lauren live in Crozet with their three children, Kaleb, Noah and Reese, who all attend Brownsville Elementary School, where Lauren is a volunteer and substitute teacher.  Patrick passionately volunteers much of his free time to help teach our youth by coaching football, basketball, baseball, soccer and volunteers with the Crozet Gators swim team.  Patrick and his family are members of the Crozet Mission Church, where they volunteer on the set-up team.

Currently, Patrick serves as the Regional Director for the RMC Events Charlottesville Office, supervising 5 full-time staff, 80 plus supervisors and over 500 part-time event staff. Patrick understands the importance of teamwork and knows how to work together with stakeholders to achieve a common goal of safety and security while still delivering excellent customer service. It’s with this experience, proven leadership and organizational skills, commitment to high ethical and professional standards, and dedication to public safety that makes Patrick the best choice for our Albemarle County Sheriff.
